PSION people! Gerry Thorpe inspired me to this with his recent email of PSION woe. As I have been using PSIONs for over 2 years--and screwed up a lot of times--I thought I would pass on tidbits, news, tricks. Feel free to rebutt or augment. * * * * * * * * * * PSION tip of the week * * * * * * * * * * Tip Number: 1 Entered: 8 February 1994 Written by: Blake Nancarrow Platforms: Series 3, Series 3a Comments Be sure to close down or exit programs and documents before restarting or rebooting your PSION. I had to reboot my 3a the other day to clear a gliche but I completely forgot to shut down running apps. Oops! (That's not what I said at the time). Exiting Applications If you want to reboot the PSION and not loose data, close down all programs and documents. This is also important if you run out of free memory. This memory is shared by programs and data files. - press button get to the System screen - press keys to point to a bolded file name - press keys to exit document or file (it will be saved) - repeat until there are no bolded entries (Time cannot be stopped) Rebooting the PSION Use this with caution as it can cause data loss if any programs are still running and if documents are open. For certain, alarms in the Time program are lost as well as customizations to the System itself: the layout of the System screen, the auto switch off setting, etc. This does not affect data safely saved to SSD disk. This procedure need only be used in emergencies. This is the soft reset as opposed to the hard reset. - close down all applications - stick a paper clip into the small hole above the key - pause for several seconds - optionally, turn on the PSION normally (it might do it by itself) - you will hear a loud beep sound (ugh!) - the unit will restart plain System screen but then quickly rebuilds * * * * * * * * * * PSION tip of the week * * * * * * * * * * That's all for this week. Keep on PSIONing.
