constellations

In an effort to better navigate my way around the night skies, I'm trying to learn more constellations and asterisms. As of the summer of 2006, I could pick up about a dozen constellations (of the 88 standard) with the naked eye, without any charts. Meaning, I can look up and say, "Oh, that's such-and-such." But I feel there's more I need to know, I guess. Or is that stupidly obvious.

  1. Aquila - Aql
  2. Andromeda - And
  3. Aries - Ari
  4. Auriga - Aur
  5. Boötes - Boo
  6. Cancer - Cnc
  7. Canes Venatici - CVn
  8. Canis Major - CMa
  9. Canis Minor - CMi
  10. Capricornus - Cap
  11. Cassiopeia - Cas
  12. Cepheus - Cep
  13. Corona Borealis - CrB
  14. Cygnus - Cyg
  15. Delphinus - Del
  16. Draco - Dra
  17. Gemini - Gem
  18. Hercules - Her
  19. Leo - Leo
  20. Lepus - Lep
  21. Lyra - Lyr
  22. Orion - Ori
  23. Pegasus - Peg
  24. Perseus - Per
  25. Pisces - Psc
  26. (the teapot of Sagittarius) - Sgr
  27. Scorpius - Sco
  28. Taurus - Tau
  29. Triangulum - Tri
  30. Ursa Major (and the Big Dipper) - UMa
  31. Ursa Minor (and the Little Dipper) - UMi

I realise I truly wont be able to cross all 88 constellations off my list until I get down to Australia...
